Credit Cards For People With Bad Credit – What To Be Aware Of
In need of a credit card but finding it hard due to a bad credit record? You probably know some of the facts about credit cards for people with bad credit and things are obviously not so good as those folks with good credit ratings. Nevertheless, we should not see this purely as a short term goal here.
No matter if you are looking to get your card by an online application, by telephone or by visiting your local bank, the facts remain the same – you need to study the terms and conditions closely and try to pick a card that matches closely to your needs. By this I mean – for example – if you intend to pay off your balance in full every time (good thing to do!) then the interest rates do not matter to you as much as would say the annual fee for the card. So in this case go for a card with a very low or no annual fee.
This is just an example but here are a few things to ask yourself:
- what are the over limit fees and the late payment fees? If you have every intention of using your card to the max then its as wise to know what the over the credit limit fees are, just to be safe. This way if you do stray a bit over limit you are well prepared for the consequences. The same goes with late payments too – no hidden surprises if you already know how much you will be charged for making late payments to your account.
- what fees are there for cash advances? Hopefully you will not need to make cash advances on your card, but there may come a time when its absolutely necessary. If that’s the case then again, its clever to be aware of the costs involved.
- Annual Fees Annual fees are an unnecessary evil to a credit card holder. Its just a way for the card issuer to profit at your expense. But again, if you are struggling with bad credit you do not have too much choice.
So okay, its a fact that life is not a bouquet of roses for those of us who require a credit card if we have bad credit already. Fees tend to be high and terms and conditions less flexible than other card types. But this apart, not only do we need to have some credit to get by on a day to day basis with a little bit of flexibility but we also need to focus on rebuilding our credit score. Now is a good time to begin!
